Glynde and Beddingham Swimming Club

2012

As we move into the new year we still have a lot of work to do! Highest on our list is fundraising given the cost, albeit kept as low as possible, of the above work which has emptied our coffers. There is further maintenance to do on the pool itself and longer term we are investigating whether using alternative energy sources such as solar power, might be possible for both the pump house and to raise the water temperature.

We need your help. We try to keep membership costs reasonable, and this income just about covers our basic running costs (electricity, chemicals and insurance). However, to keep the pool running for the benefit of our three parishes we badly need additional funds to cover maintenance and improvements. If you can help in any way - whether making a donation, organising an event or getting sponsored - please contact:

Thank you!

The pool is for the use of Glynde, Beddingham and Firle residents and their guests, and is run entirely by volunteers. We are unusual and fortunate in having a village pool and we welcome members who will both enjoy it and look after it.

The early part of 2011 saw the replacing of the 30 year old filter along with the pump and pipework. Working with and guided by Trioflow, our wonderful pool experts, we undertook this as a community project, supported by local businesses and volunteers who all gave their time for free. Holes were dug, drains investigated, sand lugged, the old filter cut up and wheelbarrowed away, the new one carefully taken across the cricket pitch and slid into place (with breath held!), and rather a lot of plumbing sorted out. We are enormously grateful and indebted to all those that enabled this to happen, far too numerous to mention here.

We also had an excellent pool cleaning day in April with over 25 people scrubbing, hosing, weeding, painting, and generally getting everything ready for the pool to open on 1st May. Over 160 people took out pool membership and despite a rather cool summer the pool was well used.
